Licensing¶
μfem is offered under three licensing tiers. All tiers include the full solver — there are no feature restrictions on the free tier.
- Community — free, non-commercial use only (personal projects, self-study, academic research and teaching, and evaluation in any environment). Activated automatically on launch — no key required.
- Individual — commercial use by a single named user, installable on any machine that user personally operates.
- Enterprise — multi-seat, floating, on-prem, or air-gapped licences for teams and organisations; invoiced.
Revenue from Individual and Enterprise licences funds the continued development, validation, and support of μfem. Paid tiers directly sustain new features and ongoing improvements to the solver.
For current pricing and to purchase a licence, see the μfem product page.
Subscriptions are processed by Paddle as Merchant of Record. By installing, activating, or using μfem you agree to our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Refund Policy, and Specified Commercial Transactions Act Disclosure.
Frequently Asked Questions¶
What counts as commercial use? Any use that produces results, designs, or analyses for a paying client, an employer, or a commercial product. Publishing academic results or sharing open-source examples does not.
Can I evaluate μfem inside a company before purchasing? Yes. Evaluation in a commercial environment is permitted under the Community tier for up to 30 days.
What happens when my Individual subscription lapses? μfem falls back to Community-tier behaviour. Existing simulations and results remain yours; only commercial use stops being permitted.
Do I need a separate licence per machine? No. The Individual tier is tied to a single user, not a single machine.
Do I own the results I produce with μfem? Yes. You retain full ownership of all meshes, simulations, and outputs you generate, under any tier.
